March 1 – Mark 7:24-37

Kathy Vanaman

Many time when we read something in Scripture, things make absolutely no sense to us. This passage is one of them. Dogs? Crumbs? Eating under the table? What does that have to do with the demon my daughter has? Spitting and touching the deaf mans tongue? Yuck! Yet these things are recorded for us to read, mark and inwardly digest (so to speak).

How many times do WE say something to someone regarding our beliefs or traditions and they walk away wondering what the heck are we talking about? We use words that make sense to US or the Christians around us but not to everyone. During the Lenten season my we seek God’s will in speaking to those around us who do not know Him personally. When we share our faith with someone, may we be willing to speak in ways that they may understand. May we be willing to clarify anything that seems confusing to them. May we share Jesus’  story of His life and Death in a way that draws all men unto Him. May we also ask questions, when building relationships with others, regarding their beliefs or traditions if they share something with us that we do not understand.

We pray:

Dear Heavenly Father,

You are not a God of confusion but of peace (1 Corinthians 4:33). Help us to speak clearly to others so they may desire to know you fully. When things seem to be confusing may we seek Your clarification so we may be obedient in doing Your will. Amen
