March 20 – Mark 14:53-72

At Our Lowest

Kevin Mowers

Have there been times in your life when you feel that absolutely nothing seems to be going right? Every decision and even every relationship just seems to be in a negative place with no change in sight. These times certainly make us feel that we are at the lowest point emotionally, physically, and even spiritually.

Certainly, Peter must have been feeling this way when he realized that Jesus’ prediction came true. I imagine that Peter felt ashamed and extremely sad when the realization set in that he denied and failed his Lord. He certainly must have been at his lowest point in life. Fortunately, Jesus had another prediction for Peter. This was Peter and upon this rock, Jesus built His church.

In Scripture, there are many stories in which people were at their absolute lowest point. In almost all of these stories, God uses these situations to show His greatest work. For us, when there is nothing left in life, our faith in Him must remain. Our faith in Him allows us to be pulled from the darkest of depths in order to see the light.

In life, when we face our greatest challenges, we must turn to Him. When we face the embarrassment of our greatest failures, we must remember that the Lord is still using us to do His great work. Like Peter, we are called to build His church even though we have completely failed in life. Remember, God’s greatest work came at His lowest point when Jesus was dying on the cross. His death is your salvation. His death is your forgiveness.

We pray:

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank You for dying on the cross to pay for my sins. Help me to remember that even in my lowest point, You are doing Your greatest work. Give me strength and guide me to do Your will. Amen.
